MaxView Site Diversity

Site diversity is a technique to limit the effect of rain fade on satellite communications. The downlink transmissions of satellites cover very large areas, and often those satellites will of course encounter different weather. Site diversity consists of linking two or more ground stations that can receive the same signal. This way, if the signal is heavily attenuated in one area, the other ground station can compensate for the signal disruption. By automating the switch, the risk of human error is eliminated and therefore so is the risk of dual-illumination and costly disruptions. By eliminating the risk of service disruption due to rain fade, carriers can avoid customer service costs and/or reduce SLA penalties.

Meeting Key Technical Requirements

Site Diversity with MaxView successfully addresses the critical criteria necessary for a successful system to efficiently and reliably reduce disruptions due to weather.
  • Fade detection
  • Flexible failure criteria
  • Secondary site preparation
  • Controlling synchronization of switch
  • Reporting
